Dear honourable members,
Season’s greetings from the IOS Head Office. Hope this letter finds you in good health.
The following are the announcements, news and updates from the head office.
IOS Awards
We are inviting applications for the following annual IOS awards. The applications should reach the Head Office on or before 30th Aug. 2010. Details will be available in article 37 of IOS constitution.
- Dr. J. G. Kannappan’s award for the best dissertation submitted in orthodontics in 2008.
- Dr. P. P. Jacob’s award for the best scientific paper published in the JIOS in 2009.
- Dr. George Jacob’s award for innovations in clinical orthodontics published in 2009.
- IOS research award for life members 2010 (3 nos.)
- IOS student research award 2010 (2 nos.)
- IOS award for the best performed study group 2010 (activities for the period of Sept. 2009 – Aug. 2010)
Prospective candidates are invited to send in their applications in the prescribed format given below. Along with the application form, the following documents are required as proof of the work done / publications made by the candidate.
- Application forms are available in the website www.iosweb.net/forms for category 1-5. Application for category 6 has to be done separately with all supporting documents.
- For award no. 1 listed above (dissertation) a letter from the Guide / Co-guide / Head of the Department / Head of the College stating that the dissertation submitted is a bonafide work carried out by the candidate in the department, photocopies of the key articles (two to three articles) that may have formed the basis of the present study or may have had a significant bearing on the design of the present study along with a soft copy (CD) of the dissertation.
- For awards no. 2 & 3 listed above, the full reference of the article published and a copy of the published article and photocopies of any key articles (two to three articles) that may have formed the basis of the present study or may have had a significant bearing on the design of the present study.
- For awards number 4 & 5 listed above, proof that the work has been done by the candidate, in the form of a letter from the head of the department / head of the institution, on the letterhead where the work has been carried out stating that it is an original work carried out by the candidate in the department / institution and photocopies of any key articles (two to three articles) that may have formed the basis of the present study or may have had a significant bearing on the design of the present study.
- One recent passport size photograph of the candidate.
- Applications with all required documents should reach the IOS head office on or before 30th Aug. 2010.
- Please read article 37 of IOS constitution www.iosweb.net/constitution regarding the eligibility for applying and other details before sending the application.
Mid-Year Convention
This years’ mid-year convention titled ‘Beyond Boundaries ‘10’ which was held at Hong Kong & Macau, and was a great success. 60 delegates from India attended the event, which also saw international participation and scientific presentations of a high calibre.
Public Awareness Programme
As a part of the Public Awareness Programme, we have designed an Information Card for the Orthodontic Patients, comprising general information, maintenance of appliance and oral health, unfavourable consequences, frequently asked doubts and appointment schedules. A sample of ten pieces will be reaching you very soon. If anybody wants to order for more (personalised), they can place the order with the Head Office. Translations of the same can also be made in the local languages. The details will be announced along with the information cards.
Orthodontic Week
Every year we celebrate Oct. 1st to 7th 2010 as the orthodontic week and to observe Oct. 5th as Orthodontists Day.
We request all the members and study groups to conduct free orthodontic diagnostic camps, check-ups in schools and other places by joining the reputed local organisations or independently. Other possible public awareness also can be done. For any assistance, please contact the Head Office.
ID Cards
The ID cards and membership certificates for the new members are getting ready. It will be reaching you before November 2010.
Constitution Copy
Hope everybody has received the printed copy of the constitution.
Upcoming Conference & Convention
- 45th IOC at Mangalore December 2010.
- 15th IOS PG Students’ Convention at Sunder Nagar, Shimla, March 2011.

APOC 2012
The organising committee has for the APOC 2012 at Delhi started functioning under the Chairmanship of Dr. V. P. Jayade.
International Feathers in IOS Cap
Dr. Girish Karandikar has been elected as the Treasurer, APOS for the year 2010-2012.
Dr. Nikhilesh Vaid and Dr. Ashish Gupta have been appointed as Editors for the APOS News letter (APOS News) and APOS Journal (APOS Trends in Orthodontics) for the year 2010-2012.

I O S Times - News Letter
The Executive Committee has formulated and approved guidelines for the IOS Times and all efforts will be made to regularize the publication within the frame work.
IOS Members’ Directory
Due to certain unavoidable circumstances, the directory couldn’t published on time. The new edition will be reach you in another two months.
Trade Mark Registration
Now Indian Orthodontic Society and its logo have been registered under Trade Marks Act, 1957.
Federation of SAARC Orthodontic Societies
The proposal for forming the “Federation of SAARC Orthodontic Societies” by the SAARC countries is in the progress. India will be taking lead role in this regard.
Tragic loss
We would like to inform our esteemed members about the sad demise of three of our IOS members, Dr. Karamjit Singh (Brig), Dr. Mragendra Raka and Dr. Gopakumar K. G. On behalf of all its members, IOS has expressed condolences to the family of the bereaved. We would like to request all the IOS members to pray for the peace of the departed souls.
